During the First World War, a clumsy American soldier is taken captive a mere two days after his deployment. On the day of the armistice, he manages to escape, completely unaware that the war has ended. He eventually makes his way to a fictional Balkan state, Bomania, whose unpopular, alcoholic king bears an uncanny resemblance to him. When the soldier winds up in the midst of a plot against the king, mayhem ensues … SOLDIER MAN was co-written by Frank Capra (future star director of IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT and other classics) and is regarded as one of comedian Harry Langdon’s best short films.
