Like in the twenties, but with the view of today, the duo M-Cine sets live silent films to music. Concert highlights in recent years have been silent film soundtracks for the State Representation of NRW at the EU Brussels, at the award ceremony of the German Football Culture Prize Nuremberg or for the Filmforum NRW / Philharmonie Cologne. Katharina Stashik (saxophone) and Dorothee Haddenbruch (piano) met during their studies at the Musikhochschule Köln. In 2002 they founded their duo M-Cine there and developed their style, which combines classical musical craft with improvisation. M-Cine does not resort to existing silent film compositions, but looks at the films of its choice with an unbiased eye and explores their language. Is it conventional or experimental? Loud or soft? From this, the musical material for the film develops. Improvised and composed elements intertwine. Each silent film evening is thus unique and characterized by the joy of experimentation. In addition to saxophone and piano, reception bells, megaphones, historical table zithers or old typewriters can also be used. The latest addition to M-Cine's repertoire is the crime film " Der Bettler vom Kölner Dom". www.m-cine.de
