In this charming comedy of mistaken identity from director Lewis Milestone (of ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT fame), the protagonist discovers that life has many surprises in store – and that the dream of becoming an opera singer can take a young woman from Vienna via Budapest to Monte Carlo. THE GARDEN OF EDEN is based on a German play that was adapted for the screen by frequent Lubitsch collaborator Hanns Kräly. The set design and the magnificent Art Deco hotel on the Riviera were created by William Cameron Menzies, who later coined the term ‘production designer’ with his work on GONE WITH THE WIND.
